BENEFITS OF EXERCISE FOR SENIORS
When performed safely, strength training and increased activity can assist seniors in reducing the loss of BONE DENSITY, MUSCLE MASS, AND STRENGTH which results in physical disability and frailty.
Can osteoporosis actually be reversed? Yes! Not only can you prevent bone loss through resistance training, you can rebuild bone mass that has been lost. Resistance training will increase the blood flow to the bones resulting in hormonal changes which enhance bone nutrition and growth.
Strength training also helps reduce the symptoms of various chronic diseases, such as:
ARTHRITIS
DEPRESSION
TYPE II DIABETES
OSTEOPOROSIS
SLEEP DISORDERS
HEART DISEASE
and when combined with balance training, reduces falls.
Studies have shown a direct link between regular physical activity and general health: less activity means more health problems.
